What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is a federally funded program created in 1965 as part of the Economic Opportunity Act.   Funding is now provided by the U.S. Department of Education.   It's an educational program designed to develop the skills and motivation necessary for students to gain entrance into and achieve success in postsecondary education.   Montana Tech has three Upward Bound Programs that are comprised of students in grades 9-12.   The first serves Anaconda, Butte, Capital and Helena high schools and is known as Montana Tech Upward Bound or MTUB.   The second serves Alberton, Plains, Superior and Thompson Falls high schools and is known as Lower Clark Fork Upward Bound or LCFUB.   The third serves Ennis, Harrison, Twin Bridges, Sheridan and Whitehall high schools and is know as Ruby Valley Upward Bound or RVUB.
